Elusive 60s song. Title and group; please!?

I'm looking for a title and group name of a 60s song that is really reclusive. They sound British; but I could be wrong. Also, while I can hum out the melody, the lyrics are eluding me. I have what I THINK are some of them: "I know I should love you; but somehow I couldn't. I wish I could hold you in my arms; but somehow I wouldn't. But each I day as I go about my way..." Any ideas? Thanks! I heard this song in a store again after so long; but couldn't grasp it; too noisy inside!
